each planet is on its own axis and its own path,,,,,
sort of pushing and pulling each other with gravitational weight.
the sun will eventually colide with the earth...... while it slowly burns out,,,,,, millions of years from now.

There has been muc debate on your question, and it is a very good one indeed. Of course, the simplest theory is that of a greater gravity that is actually a framework of gravititional pull from all objects in the universe, thus causing stabilty because there is an equal force everywhere that holds things together.
Another theory is that of the illusive ether. The ether theory states that there is a yet undetectable substance in the universe that holds all time and matter is suspension and creates the framework for our universe. As of yet, conclusive evidence has not been found, but experiments should be able to make or break this theory in the near future.
An interesting aspect of your question is to that of the extent of the gravitational pull of matter. The sun's massive force is concentrated around it, whthing a radius of 1 million miles. Out side of that, the sun still has a strong presence gravitationally, but not enough to pull the planets in towards it. What keeps us from flying into the sun? It is the force of inertia produced by the earth's path around the sun. Like a ball attached to the end of a stick by a string flying in a circle, so does the earth fly around the sun. the string is the gravity, but we acheive perfect balance through enertia.
There are many theories that can help you answer your question, but no definite answer. Try reading an astronomy or physics journal for more interesting information..
Hope that helped...

The force keeping us from crashing into the sun is called centrifugal force. The earth is "running" in a circle (less or more) around the sun at a certain speed, that causes the centrifugal force. Assuming gravity and centrifugal force would be perfectly in balance, the line around the sun would be a perfect circle.
Tie a small weight to one end of a rope, take the other end and start spinning the rope vertically, as long as you spin fast enough the weight won't fall when being on top of the circle you create by spinning.

Because E= MC(2)=S+T(q)(2)
where s= space , t= time and q= dark matter which repulses gravity.
