dos-disk operating system....why it is called so????????? y it is given that name...every os operates the disk...but then why dos???????

because back in the old days there were no hard drives in computers (PC's), only disk drives and 64k of RAM. When the computer booted up it loaded DOS and was primarily used for operating the disk drive so you could load other programs from it. The name just stuck and was never changed until windows came out, which is now the most widely used OS. In fact new OS's like windows XP dont even have DOS anymore (as it used to be).

That is basic operating system hence its name like that., the first OS in world operated by Disk., and its called as IBM-DOS once and microsoft Joint ventured with IBM-DOS he makes as MS-DOS then he make Windows 3.1 from that., then came win95.

That is a generic name if someone does a search on old esoteric OS names; example: AppleDOS, DirtyDOS.

MS-DOS is the one most ppl remember because the only popular OSes are ones Microsoft wrote.

IT IS CALLED SO BECAUSE BEFORE STARTUP YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO INSERT A DISKETTES, DOS FORMAT
