It depends on what sort of work you're doing. If you're doing nursing, short nails so as not to injure the patients. I can type with rather long nails so that isn't a problem if you do secretarial work. I break them a lot though because I'm clumsy so I try to keep them mid-length.

Short nails. Their better functionally and healthwise. In nursing school we were required to keep our nails short mainly because of nosocomial infections. Staph and all other bacteria love hiding under nails. The longer the nail, the more area for bacteria to hide.

Short nails better functionally, but long nails look better. More feminine, especially painted.

I grow mine long until they get in the way of pushing buttons on the phone, TV remote, and worst of all the PS2 controller. Then I cut them down but not too short, I still want to be able to scratch an itch. I like the look of long but the freedom of short.

tapered nails look better than french,
always when I see french nails, I have to think about a mole

not too long as a witch, and not too short as a child. the best one is french manicured, clean nails
