Dictionaries tend to define love as deep affection or fondness.[1] In colloquial use, according to polled opinion, the most favoured definitions of love include the words:[2]

1. life - someone or something for which you would give your life.
2. care - someone or something about which you care more than yourself.

In common use, care refers to a mental or emotional state of predisposition in which one has an interest or concern for someone or something. To care for someone, may also refer to a disquieted state of mixed uncertainty, apprehension, and responsibility; or a cause for such anxiety. Caring for an object, such as a house, refers to a state of attendant maintenance; or may also refer to a state of charge or supervision, as in under a doctor’s care.

3. friendship - favoured interpersonal associations or relationships.
4. union - dissolution of loving subject into loved object; a hyper-real state of creative generosity.
5. family - people related via common ancestry.
6. bond - the inner connection when another person is a part of your identity.

Thomas Jay Oord defines love as acting intentionally, in sympathetic response to others (including God), to promote overall well-being. Oord means for his definition to be adequate for religion, philosophy, and the sciences.

love is the base of life..
we all do love something or the other at every point in our life..
as a kid we love chocolate and icecream..
we grow up and statr loving our parents..
we groe further and then our love is our friends..
even growing up makes us love a thing called SEX..
when we've overcome the sex thing we love our wives/husbands/gay partners.. (variety these days)
then we love our children..
then we love money..
then we love fame..
then we love respect..
when we grow old we love peace..
then we love sweet food (specially after doctor tell us us to avoid)..
so we keep loving something, someone, some place or the other at every minute in out life..

Bible said,
"Love is patient; love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice in wrongdoing, but rejoices in the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.Love never ends." (Cor. 13:4-8)
