If indeed anything should be done? Is it really a problem in the US, and other places? I distinctly recall being an underage binge drinker starting from when I was 14, but so was 95 percent of everyone else (except the few compulsory "Christians").

Much of the underage drinking goes about in the small towns, typically in a park (not to imply that people don't drink in the capital). Often there are even police present, watching.

My parents were typically aware of what I was doing, and had such curfews like 1am, or, until I just sent a textmessage that I was staying over at a friends place.
Often after a "binge" even if one didn't drink much, one had bonded much more with ones friends, and I found that to be very important. Such people who did not go out on saturday nights were ultimately left out from social circles... not because of bullying, but because of lack of social connections.

What are your opinions?

Absolutely something needs to be done. I live in dread, just 100% FEAR, for my two teens (15 and 13). I can see them doing many of the same things that I did as a teen, and it scares me.

Many people feel that by lowering the legal age to 18, the problems will be solved. Bullshyte.

Yes, the blame for underage drinking lies alot with the parents, but more with peer pressure. But where do the peers get the ideas with which to pressure? Many places, the worst being modern media adverstising. See that beer ad? Oh, that guys got the hot chick. He's got a brew! Maybe f I had one, I could get the hot chick. If parents talked to thier kids more about it, there wouldn't BE as big a problem.

I know I'm rambling. I'm really tired, but this subject struck a nerve. I wasn't going to answer, actually, but I decided to anyway.

I guess the answer to your question is this:

How to curb teen drinking.

1)Parents need...no...NEED....to talk to thier kids about alcohol. And not the 30 second "It's bad for you, now go away" speech. Parents, get to know your kids. You will still live in fear for them, but you will have a level of trust you never did before.

and 2)Tougher laws. If a 16 year old kid gets wasted drunk, don't take him home and turn him over to Mommy and Daddy. Take his a.s.s. to jail for public drukeness. Force them to attend AA or something similar. Make it so it ain't so cool to be drunk.

definite, tell youngsters that they could additionally get in an "twist of destiny" with a inebriated driving force so which you apart from mght can substitute right into a public speaker and gets a commission to chat to youngsters. you won't be in a position to tell the youngsters, however the stupid adults will pay you to chat approximately your tale.

In the US, I'd say lowering the drinking age to 18 would be a good start.
