The Europeans used to think that the concept of the Americas or other continents and lands was absurd, but then they found the Americas and encountered the native americans who they thought were strange.

Do you think that in the future we will discover these other planets and their inhabitants like we discovered the America's? And eventually we will learn to inhabit these other planets and coexist with extraterrestrials?

it sounds outlandish, but just centuries ago the idea of the Americas would have been the same... think about it!

yes, sherry M...like they "discovered" them...if they didn't know about them it was a discovery. if we discover a new planet that already has alien inhabitants living on it, it will still be a discovery none the less.

i have thought about it, and i say no, it will not happen

we will continue to discover many more planets, but we will not be able to travel to any outside of this solar system. if we do find extraterrestrials, they will be much ahead or behind us, we will not be able to co-exist

think about this, native americans were maybe centuries different in technology, but they were equal in evolution, having similar capabilities, physically and mentally

if we ever came across other intelligent species, the chance of coming across them at the same level of development as us is extremely low. think if we were aliens visiting the earth, what would be the chance of coming here during the few short centuries when we might be able to deal with them on an equal level? what if they came here 10,000 years ago (a very tiny time in earth's history)? do you think a race that was capable of traveling to other planets could co-exist with humans 10,000 years ago? how about 100,000 years ago? how about 1,000,000 years ago? even a million years ago is a short blink in the history of the earth.

the point is like a cows opinion though, we wont travel outside of this solar system any time soon

I think it's good someone has raised this point because i truly beleive that history will repeat itself.

We will have another Columbus of the future who will go into the future history books for finding another inhabitable planet.

Likewise, punishments of old for criminals will also make a comeback.

Back in the Victorian times, Transportation to AUstralia was deemed a WORSE punishment by criminals themselves than the death penalty!!!

So i think prisons will be made on other inhabitable planets and transportation to these planets will become a new and horrible punishment - you are on this planet on your own, without society + it's impossible to get back home and anything could happen to you without you being able to do anything about it.

And i am sure that if we do come across "intelligent" life that is NOT as developed as us, the chances are we will kill it to take over their planet/land. It's what we did with the negroes when we first entered Africa and it's what we did with the Native Americans when we first entered America.

And i can see it happening again. Not because we still hold these same views, but just that as a human race, we will be so overwhelmed to find another hospitable planet that will probably be rich in natural resources that i think this will mean we will revert back to our anal way of killing any kind of threat to us, most of which is usally far less developed than ourselves anyway.

I like to think that surely we are not the only ones in this great big Universe. There very well could be life on a planet in another solar system. Will we ever find or "discover" them...I don't know.

everything's possible...

human curiosity and insatiability affects everything...

the discovery of the Europeans of the America was caused by the question? "what is there beyond the sea?" man is born to be curious... he always ask why? what is beyond? and after their questions had been answered, he will form another question that he will then look again for answer...

we just can't really answer that question because we are unsure of everything... technology is fast changing and many different things became possible because of it... let's just wait for the future.. if we're still alive... hahaha...

I believe there are plenty more - it will just take us more time to fine tune our technologies to discover them !
