The geological records (rocks in the ground) show that it has happened several times in the past. There is evidence that it will happen again. According to my reference (wikipedia), "at present, the overall geomagnetic field is becoming weaker at a rate which would, if it continues, cause the dipole field to temporarily collapse by 3000-4000 AD."
A reversal of the magnetic field does not require that the planet stop spinning and reverse direction. I don't think there is any reason to believe that the world would be in "chaos".

According to evidence on the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean, such reversals have taken place many times in the past.
As lava squeezes out from between the continental plates on the sea floor, magnetic minerals in the lava become "frozen" in place as the lava solidifies. The directions of their magnetic moments indicate the current direction of the Earth's moment when the lava haardened.
Analysis of this hardened lava shows that these "frozen" moment signature reverse every so often. I forget what the period is, but I think it's a lot more often than the mass extinctions we already know about.
Besides, even if we are killed by a magnetic field reversal, so what? We're nothing worth existing here, and another life form - possibly at least as "intelligent" than us - will eventually follow.
Things live and die, species come and go. Live in the moment - it's all you really have anyway, magnetic field or not.

How the heck can you imagine doomsday? No way that the earth will flip over. Just by simple law of physics that cannot happen as long as the earth rotates. The magnetism, whether flipping of not (yes, it will flip, it does so in less or more regular periods of time) will not have any impact on the rotation, it resolves from the rotation.

Yes there have been many reversals of the Earth's magnetic field. Some of them are recorded in the rocks in the floor of the Atlantic Ocean. The Earth itself will not flip over or change its rotation in any way.

The magnetic pole has reversed several times in the past. But the magnetic pole does not have anything to do with the rotation of the Earth or its orbital stability, only it magnatism. The magnetic compass manufactures will be delighted. All the old compasses will then be obsolete.

The magnetic poles have reduced and flipped before. The earth has even shifted its axis before. As far as doomsday, I dont want to be here when either happens.

"... we all need to die to be sin free as per Romans 6:7......." - If this were true, the Yeshua died in vain, because - once we all die - we "are free from sin", right? Wrong. Sin is the error Man took after Adam's transgression. Once the body is burned, there exist no error. Deleted. That does not mean WE DESERVE ANYTHING, and the fact is, as Yeshua said, we "are slaves good for nothing" that deserve to die, because the ONLY thing that the Law brings in, is death. After Yeshua's resurrection (The First one), many were 'changed' in an instant at their death, and that 'corruptible' was transformed into incorruptible. They are now in an abode with Him in the House of His Father "where there exist many Mansions" and they will come with Him "as in a cloud" when He returns with His saints. Those who He does not recognize as "His sheep" may have to wait until the Resurrection at the end of the 1000 years, where there will be - for some - a Resurrection of Life, and for others a Resurrection of Judgment. The realm of those loyal to Him is the Universe, the Planets ("the stones of fire" originally given to the Spiritual creatures that later on rebelled against God). Things will return to the conditions existent at the very beginning, again, and He will Reign as a King again. btw, you do not need to be a JW to read the Scriptures and let someone tell you what they mean. It's there for all, be free. Read. Learn, The Truth shall make you free.

Our planet has its magnetic poles due to its spin. In order for there to be a reversal of these opposite forces, our plant would have to reverse direction of spin. Not very likely.
http://360.yahoo.com/noddarc there is a short writing on why our planet forms its magnetic lines as it does.

I believe there is a theory that it has, in fact, happened, something to do with Mars coming very close the earth that caused the poles to be reserved.
