As a Scot, I think we have the best sense of humour. So many Scots are just naturally funny in a really dry way. And we love to take the p*ss out of ourselves and everyone else for that matter !!!

I think that the British are the best of the English-speaking countries at laughing at themselves. That's what makes people laugh comfortabley, rather than poking fun at others. Sure, we'll laugh at a joke at another person, hopefully someone we know, but we feel guilty about it. When someone is poking fun at themselves, we don't feel too badly because they themselves cause the laugh, not some innocent person who probably isn't in the room. And frankly, do you know another language well enough that you can follow their humour? I love the British sense of humour.

I think we're more witty and maybe more our jokes are quite intelligent. For instance if you watch Ricky Gervais, Ross Noble, Peter Kay etc... they tend to mix their humour around situations they've been in and they don't mind making jokes about fellow englishmen. And yes we can take the pi.s.s out of ourselves to a certain extent.
However saying that, American humour is also hilarious but they tend to have more slapstick, which I personally dispise.

Humour is the thing I miss most after emmigrating from the uk. I love that dry, tongue in cheek, taking the piss humour.
Its very subtle so often missed but its brilliant
Eg: last time I was there I saw a dog in the papers and over the news that had been born with a cleft palate and so had two noses, no one wanted it
I was telling my brother, and looked at me deadpan and said "does it go 'mark mark'"
lol lol

Well I have a friend who is British and I can honestly tell you that every time I go to visit, her and her family make me laugh so hard by the end of the evening I am rolling around on the floor in laughter. That could also be that I am hearing a different culture with different jokes so this unfamiliarity is amusing to me.

The best conversations are when both parties are saying sarky or funny comments with a completely straight face. I think the Brits are the best at spotting the ironies of life!!

since we sometimes seem to be the only people in the world that can laugh at ourselves we must be
If other countries could laugh at their stupidities the way we do the world would be a much nicer place. nobody would get all huffy and insulted as often, amd national pride can be very silly sometimes, most of the world seems to b e too anal to laugh at themselves and get all insulted if somebody else does Thank god I'm English --and ridiculous--and you can all laugh your heads off at me and I wo'nt be insulted!!!!!

Depends on what type.... the dry sarcastic, or the silly (monty python) humor. I prefer Absolutely Fabulous a more over the top outrageous humor. But your best is all up to you.
