It means you got a second class honours degree, upper division.

To be more helpful - imagine university degrees are on a scale of A to E - A being the highest grade you can get, and E being the lowest you can get, anything lower than that is a fail.

Here is what degree levels turn into:

1st Class = A
2:1 = B
2:2 = C
3rd = D
Pass = E

The classification goes like this (highest to lowest):

First Class Honours degree (First or 1st)
Upper Second Class Honours degree (Upper Second or 2:1)
Lower Second Class Honours degree (Lower Second or 2:2)
Third Class Honours degree (Third)
Ordinary degree

Usually a First or 2:1 is required as an entry requirement for a higher qualification such as a PhD. The proportion of students receiving each grade varies very widely depending on the course - some authorities put very tight limits on the number of first class degrees they award, which is why 2:1s are often grouped with firsts when level of degree is being used as a measure of academic standard by employers and indeed by other universities.

It is the 2nd highest award on an undergraduate degree. I feel it means that you are clever enough to work hard and get results but you also have time for a life!

It mens you were able to set the right balance between work and play. You could have achieved a 1St if you'd stayed out fo the bar a bit more...but you are better person than those who stayed in and got a 1st.
