i've had trouble doing the toilet the past few days, i've also had what feels like cramps in my stomach.
if this is just constipation, does anyone know whats good for it and how to stop getting it again.

What you put in is what you get out. Kinda makes sense. So... put in good food (green vegetables, seeds, fibrous stuff like bran, fruit, yada, yada) and keep 'bad' foods to a mimnimum (fat, sugar, salt). That's how you avoid it happening again.
To get rid of it now... MILK OF MAGENESIA is very good, though tastes bad, or you could buy a sachet drink from the chemist called FIBRE GEL ORANGE which is a natural firbe drink you mix with water.
Keep your eye on it though, and if these symptoms are not normal for your system then go to your doctor. It could be something more sinister. Good luck.

It's really important that you take a laxative, rather than leaving it until you're doubled up in pain and need an embarrasing enema.

If left untreated the stools can become hardened and this REALLY hurts-trust me I'm speaking from experience, and I'm in my early 20's. I guess the body can only take so much abuse!

To avoid constipation, the main factor really is hydration.
Drinking your recommended 4-5 glasses of water a day helps to soften the stool. Those with diets high in fat, or those that drink alochol regularly *that's me!-well was* have really got to watch out for this.

REMEMBER, if you go for a high fibre diet *which helps prevent bowel cancer* you need to drink proportionally more water than the average person too.

Take something like movicol to encourage a bowel movement and don't wait around!

Hi, get some senna tablets from the chemist. Take 2 before you go to bed (as they take 8 hours to work) and you should be able to "go" in the morning. You could also try taking lactulose for a few days to help maintain your regularity. With lactulose you have to increase the amount of water you drink as it helps to draw fluid into the bowel to soften everything up. Avoid tea and coffee and do some gentle exercise as this keeps the bowels moving.

To avoid getting it again drink plenty of water and eat some bran or brown bread for fibre. If its something you suffer with you can take Ispaghula Husk or fybergel as its brand name. The lemon flavour one it nice it tastes like cloudy lemonade! It also comes in orange and natural flavours too. Also exersise... A lot of elderly people suffer from constipation because the sit all day drinking tea and it makes the bowel sluggish!

Hope the info is of good help to you. Pop to your local chemist today you will be able to buy what you need from there. And most of all relax :-)

metomucil. i use powder form. u can mix a tbs in 8 oz of water/juice. and u can take it up to 3x a day. it's a fiber that makes things run smoothly again,it takes up to a day tho. it's not immediate like exlax, which if taken at the wrong time or too much, could lead to the opposite problem which isn't so good. metomucil is meant to be taken everyday to keep u regular. u should put more fiber in your diet to keep things moving. u should look at what ur eating and not eating. try adding fruit to your diet too!
you could try eating a dark chocolate hershey's bar. some women get constipated right before their period and eating chocolate is a easy and yummy laxative.
good luck with that, slow poke.

The best thing to have in your daily diet is alot of fiber if you are always constipated. I would take exlax right now to clean your system out and then get on a fiber supplement or eat foods with plenty fiber..

If you think that you need to evacuate your bowels, citrate of magnesia will definately do the trick. You can get it at any drug store no prescription needed. Then you may want to take a stool softener from then on. Example would be "Ducosate sodium" the Pharmacist can help you find it.

I've used disposable enemas before, they usually get results quickly. Some people put off going when they feel the need, When you feel like you have to go to the toilet don't put it off, find a toilet and go.

If its constipation, then a laxative might help you.

To keep it from happening again, eat a well balanced diet, and drink plenty of water.

An orange at 7, you'll go before 11. Works every time.
