Does he have any kind of gum disease? Because if he has a gum disease that would make his breath smell horrible.

I searched for you on the Internet because last night I have seen a movie and it was about the body overexposure to a mineral named selenium. Here I show you what I have found:
Overexposure of selenium fumes may produce accumulation of fluid in the lungs, garlic breath, bronchitis, pneumonitis, bronchial asthma, nausea.
And here is the link:http://www.lenntech.com/Periodic-chart-elements/Se-en.htm
I hope it will help. But your boyfriend must see a doctor, and to make a blood test.

Sounds like halitosis. He needs to brush his tongue after he brushes his teeth and use Scope Mouthwash. Carry some minty gum with you and offer it to him maybe he might catch on. I don't think I could have a boyfriend with bad breath all the time. Must be tough kissing him.
