why is it that we americans are viewed as not having any culture? we have our own ways but still other countries frown when we try to "minggle" in their practices. E.g the French are disgusted when we kinda mispronounce their words..Hey at least we try. are we that bad that different cultures have different practices except us?asians, euros etc? do we reallycome out rude and uncultured to other countries?

We are a young and extremely diversified country, so therefore it is hard to say we have a particular culture. But we do. It is one that is so diverse as to have many cultures in one...and tolerant of all (or at least thats the law and ideal). We have a culture of freedom, which most the rest of the world has no idea. And that is why many see us as having no culture.

In my travels in Europe, just like the USA, you run into all kinds. There just happen to be more of the obnoxious kind in Paris. Cities outside Paris like Nancy, Lyon, and others I have found to be helpful and friendly. Of course there is the 'Ugly American" who believes that if ain't like back home in Iowa or Atlanta then they don't know what the hell they're doing and the often loudly proclaim it. I have been embarrassed to be an American when those people are around and I shy away from them. Fade into scenery as it were. All kinds are out there on both sides. Personally I find the Germans, as a whole, the most helpful and friendly.

i think u have to do research on each culture to see how they accept americans. im going to Japan in a few monthes so i was doing some research. in Japan, everything american is seen as very cool, its kool to say english words or have an american bf or gf, but they get creeped out or ofended when an american trys to enter the society, like speak Japanese too well, or try to live there. and they also act weird toward Japanese that want to marry an american or speak english too well. other than that they r super curtious and polite, and like when other cultures have an interest in their culture, just as long as ur not trying to become Japanese.
i dont think they have the "fat" amercian image either, a Japanese sterotype of an american is blue eyes and blonde haired. Americans also come across as outgoing, and a little touchy feely.
hope my research helps lol

I think American culture stands for mixed culture. I have so many different ethnicities in my genes and background that all I can do is call myself American. I think it's a fact that binds many Americans and keeps us united. As for people not liking us. Well, a lot of people make fun of each other. Some are kidding, some are serious. But, it's always like that.

I think we are rude and I am American. We are the melting pot. People from every single country live here, visit, have homes here and in their country. The USA doesn't have any set tradition or culture. It's all mixed. That's cool but I would like to be somewhere like China or Ireland or Finland. But Americans travel and move as well. Johnnie Depp and his family don't live in America any more, neither does Madonna. If I have money I'd move too.

I am English, and our tourists are genreally as tragic and appauling as the American ones, they are just louder so you can hear them but the problem is the same. I seriously think there is an culture between both UK and US that is so far up its own *** that they think their ideals should rule supreme. Eg. One American person I saw at Pompei, a 2000 year old Roman relic, said that they had a lighting problem???

The truth is that culture in both our countries has died out, it is sad! :(

THe problem you have (from a European point of vierw) is the people that you send over to over countries as tourists...

there is a massive stereotype of the Americans comes from this...fat, loud, ignorant of the history but as long as you take nice photos of it and then you don't care.

It isn't true but it is historical and has impetus...

I am an australian, and in my travels I have met many americans, dont get me wrong, I have nothing against americans, but in my experience, Americans complain too much and expect too much of the people and places they visit...they should practice "when in rome, do what the romans do"

Who cares what the French think. I wouldn't worry about what others think. Just be yourself and live your life the best you can. Always try to be nice to others, no matter who they are and where there from. Life is short, enjoy it!

America is the essence of all culture. Since we are made up of every nation we share every culture. To say we have none is ridiculous.
