I'm thinking of doing a BSc in Microbiology and second major Chemistry. Boring huh? Anyways, I'll have to study through UNISA, coz I gotta keep working. I wanna know what job opportunities would be available with this degree.

UNISA is the best university to study microbiology. Microbiologists contribute in many different fields here in South Africa, including medicine, nutrition, genetics, genetic engineering, immunology, evolution, ecology, virology, neurobiology, endocrinology, enzymology, agriculture and space exploration. So jobs opportunities are endless.

From a qualification point of view - If you are coming from another African country then your eventual qualification should see you through most other African countries. If you intend working outside of Africa, think twice, your qualification will probably not be recognised in most places, and IF allowed you will have to do bridging courses and exams. Another thing to keep in mind is that the standards of educational institutions in SA are dropping yearly with less and less overseas countries recognising SA qualifications. From a crime point of view - do you really want to go there, the crime capital of the world with a really unhealthy social environment, which only the people that have to live there try to convince themselves that it is normal! Google or Youtube "crime south africa". With regards to your qualification I would check now against which country, state and industry you intend to work in and see whether they accept that qualification from SA. Good luck.
