We live in a world of constantly, multiplying pluralities -
Soooooo - - - - - - - - - - --
In view of the fact that often one person's passion is another person's poison -
I would venture that you might consider looking at and reading many VARIED books on art as well as visiting museums - -
after those experiences you then can formulate your own opinions.
When I want to decide if I truly love a work of art I ask myself the following question :
'If I had to live in a jail cell with this piece of work -
for a long time - - - how would I feel about it ???'

Modern Art began with a single painting -- Manet's "Luncheon on the Grass", where he challenged the artistic ideals of his time: he put a nude woman in the painting for no apparent reason, the background looks unfinished, and there's no clear linear perspective. He gave way to the Impressionists.
