You need a modem (which is connected to the phoneline/cable from your internet provider), a router (which "spreads" the internet connection), a storage device of some kind (to store the data that will be shared in the network; possibly a server), and enough Ethernet Cable to network your house or business area (or you could use a wireless network, in which case, you'd also need the wireless USB cards or built in cards into your PC).
