I would take out my cell phone call a friend, pretend that you are not far from "him", telling "him" where you are and contiune talking while walking across the street while keeping an eye on the stranger.

That really depends. Do I have a knife?? I normally have a knife on me when walking late at night. That isn't to say I would ever use it, but it helps to give me confidence when walking past "creepy" looking people. I have never been attacked, but knowing that I had the tools to protect my self makes the decision easier. If you aren't comfortable with weapons, then by all means, cross the street. Better safe than sorry.

Its the safe option, im 6'2'' and 190lbs and i would cross the road if i thought there was a chance of trouble, in my country (Scotland) we have a terrible number of knife attacks. You might look like a wuss but better safe than sorry

It depends.I've been watching alot of zombie movies lately, so if they were shambling along, I might cross the street. But if I were sure they weren't a zombie,I'd probably keep on keeping on.
