yes this has been asked before, just wanted to qualify it a little

a friend had a Dog that was a good friend and you know when you buy a dog, it is going to have a short life , I tell him to get another dog, he tells me chances are the dog will outlive him this time, would not be fair for the dog, it is so good for him to have a dog
it is more of a best friend, would you urge him to find a dog ?

I would definitely urge him to get another dog. There is nothing quite like the unconditional love that a pet has for its owner. So the dog outlives him. He can designate someone to care for it after he's gone.

Time,

your friend knows what is best for him. sometimes the heart cannot take another dog because loosing is too hard. I am in that position. Love animals...no more...physically cannot take another loss.

If your prepared and you understand that loving and then losing what you love will be painful then go for it. If you can take the pain of seperation than go for it.
