It is a very good job. But it is not easy to get in. The way most people start is through an internship or start in a part time capacity either sorting mail or running a route as a substitute.

What you want to do is go down to your local post office and have them get you the paperwork. You will have to take some tests and have a background check done. This is a long process so be patient.

But if you are willing to wait and if you qualify it should just be a matter of time.

The few friends I've known over the years that went into it liked the pay and the great benefits, some (3) went on to retire, the other two were kind of bored with the day in and day out of it all, so they saved some bucks and went into their own businesses. So it was a good move for all. If you have the opportunity, go for it.

It's a grea job in terms of benefits and all federal jobs only require 20 or 25 years of service before you can retire with a pension. The gov't is one of the last places you can get a pension from.

The pay is decent and federal benefits are fairly good. If you are interested, apply, take the test and give the job a try. If something better comes along, there is no reason you have to stay. You may love it and you may decide you would rather do something else.

Good luck to you.

The pay is decent and the benefits are good and you get retirement pay. You do have to take tests though so maybe you should get some sample tests online or at the library.

Well its a Civil Service job so you will have to take the test.

Be warned though. The test gives special consideration to race, ethnicity and military types.
