Almost everyone who contracts diabetes puts on weight. My sister has gone from a svelt 125 pounds to about 200 pounds, so your wife hasn't done bad at all. My sister is only 45. Believe it or not, prayer can help. My sister recently lost 25 pounds.

Hi when you have diabetes your body cant make insulin and you need this to break down fat, every food you consume has some fat in so people with diabetes will put weight on its a fact. I guess she has medication to help her with the insulin problem. Tell your wife not to worry to much but keep exercising and watch her diet as she will put weight on, she needs to be vigil but not obsessed with her weight though. Good luck.

Not sure the reason why she put on weight but my words of comfort are don't worry. Just be happy with yourself and enjoy your time. No one will judge you for being a size 14 and it doesn't change who you are.

you don't say if she is insulin dependant, taking pills or is controlled by diet alone. If it is insulin then it is very difficult to keep weight off, but if she is controlled by diet alone then it is essential she keep to her diet as uncontrolled diabetes can have severe side effects blindness and amputation being two of them.Would she find it easier to diet if you ate the same foods ? I hope you manage to solve the problem good luck

Ok. Look into the GI diet or catabolic diet. Discuss them with your doctor first, as you do not say whether she is type 1 or 2.
