Some of my roommates like to use bittorrent programs, as so do I, but just so I know, is there a way to disable the "upload" feature? Right now I'm using Utorrent

Just so everyone does not get the wrong idea, I always share, but some people in the house have to be watched per say. Thanks to all who have helped so far.

Really You can't stop the Upload
but all you can do is to put the upload speed to 10

and you need to right cick on the icon in the bar down on the right side
and Then chose upload speed
and chose 10

I'd be happy to share but I just got a notification of copyright infringement from Comcast, so I HAVE to turn uploads off. It's easy to be judgmental when you don't have all the facts.

You can set your upload speed using Azeureus. You can set your upload to 5k and download to unlimited. But now that trackers use ratios it will severely slow down your download speed. Usually if I upload at 5 i'll download at around 50. But if I upload at 100 I can go 5-600k a second.

Depending on which client use you (eg Bitlord, Bitcomet, Azuereus) - if you go to Tools Preferences - there is an option to set the Upload speed to Zero.

Remember if you do this, your download speeds will also suffer

If you don't plan on uploading until the ratio reaches 1.0 or greater then don't download anything. If everyone disabled their uploads there would be no shared files at all. Either share what you download or don't P2P.

Why stop the uploading ? Other people give you share and you don`t want to share with others.

The hole idea is about sharing you ingrate! if everyone would set their uploads to 0 there won't be any thing to download , now wouldn't?
