Evidently not. The head of Hezbollah is now saying that he wouldn't have had his militia cross over into Israel to kidnap soldiers if he'd known that the result would be war and the total destruction of the infrastructure of southern Lebanon.

Nobody won the war. And it is only propaganda to say that Israel lost: Hezbollah will not again do what they did; and even sending rockets into Israel would be stupid.

It goes back to the difference between the mentality of the Palestinians and the Israelis: The Israelis expect compromise, as Westerners do. The Palestinians expect Justice, as defined by them, with a historical bias that Westerners do not accept and cannot understand.

The result is stalemate.

In my opinion, Israel lost the war as far as its moral position goes. If you listen to world public opinion, Israel is not on anybody's hit parade these days. They were wrong to go in and deliberately bomb civilian centers and Lebanon's infrastructure. And don't tell me that the reason why civilians were getting killed was because Hezbollah was using them as human shields. That is simply not true. Israel targeted civilian areas where Hezbollah does not operate. I do not know whether Israel lost the war militarily speaking but if they did, I am not sorry.

In a major way, yes they did. I think they certainly had a right to fight back, but I think they did exactly what Hezbollah wanted them to do - which made Hezbollah out to look like heroes inside Lebanon when they were looked down upon for their support of Syria.

They set a trap, and Israel fell for it. And as a result, they have more enemies than before and peace and stability have declined in the region.

If you mean did they fail to meet their goals? Yes, they failed.

Of course Hezbollox didn't really win either. Nasrallah is a great politician though...one of the smartest I've seen over there. His statements of the last couple days are brilliant.

The real loser is Lebanon. They are slowly realizing that Hezbollox is a bigger threat than Israel. Thus Nasrallah's positioning remarks. He knows if he doesn't get out in front of it, it could turn into the public opinion steamroller that crushes the Islamofascist movement he heads.

Honestly, ISRAEL didn't want to win this war and destroy Hezbollah. Hezbollah is a GOOD EXCUSE to justify Israeli's future and today's actions in Lebanon and the entire region. If Hezbollah is gone and destroyed it means Israel will sit and have no longer plans to expand or even consider staying powerful in the region. Israel has to have somebody to shot at it, so they can justify to it for whatever they do.

No, the leader of Hezbullah said what they did was a mistake. That tells me Israel made them pay a heavier price than they thought. Israel knocked Hezbullah on their @ss. Why do you think Hezbullah asked the U.N. to intervene? You didn't see Israel asking for any one to stop it. It is only the person who is losing a fight that wants it stopped.

Yes. They didn't save kidnapped soldiers. Their claim was that they started war because of the soldiers and they didn't solve the problem.
They were trying to destroy Hezbollah, but they didn't do it.
It is possible they even make them stronger, because civilians were hurt and dead. Some people want a revenge and joint to Hezbollah.
Israel could go further but they had to stop the war because it was known to the world that they are occupatiors.

The Hez won a propaganda victory by helping rebuild the mess.

They achieved two goals: the propaganda victory, and successfully testing Iran's short-range missiles against a live enemy.

I'm surprised they didn't lob heavier payloads in there, just to see if they could carry a nuke someday.

Oh well, I don't fight the wars....

Win or lose the price was too high to pay with innocent lives, that's why Israel is classified as a world class terrorist

Yes I think so - why else this hasty tail between the legs retreat?

The Israelis tried everything from bombing civilians to using cluster bombs and illegal tactics - they could not break the will of the Lebanese
