I think it is so funny that this is even asked. And even funnier the answers that are being given. In no way should marijuana be labeled as worse than any cigarettes. While marijuana has more chemicals, none are actually put there by people, all natural. But the important thing to remember is that marijuana has a tumor/cancer fighting compound called THC, which also makes you feel great. Take a smoker of 20 years, one of pot, and one of cigarettes. Compare their health. Cigarettes cause more cancer than almost anything, not a single death can be blammed on the health effects of marijuana. And while tons of people are saying that your memory will be shot, marijuana use only affects short term memory while being used, or if used for many many years of heavy smoking. Cigarettes cause cancer, pot doesnt. Cigarettes brown your teeth, pot doesnt. Cigarettes are only used for smoking, pot is used for medicinal reasons, it may also be used as a source of omega-3 fat (good hard to find stuff), it can be eaten to avoid all negative effects on the lungs, vaporized to avoid all negative effects on the lungs. Anytime you inhale smoke, you are losing oxygen, which equals losing brain cells, come on. Tobacco is no diffferent in that sense. The only reason people believe marijuana is worse is because its illegal, and the reason it is illegal is extremely dumb and racist (check out the history of marijuana legislation in america). Cigarettes are worse, pot is faaaaaaantastic. PS. its been proven with proper brain stimulation and brain exercise you CAN rebuild brain cells.

There are of course physical health risks - with your lungs and throat especially. These would occur if you were inhaling any hot gas. I'm sure that there are also toxins which worsen the effect in a similar way to tobacco. I am of course talking about grass here, pure green weed, if you are smoking brown solids (hash, soap etc) stop right now! Solids are disgustingly bad for you - they're often transported with oil, so when you get "squidgy" you are in fact getting oil soked hashish. Avoid all solids, they are the root to all evil.
In my opinion the biggest risk when it comes to *weed* is mental ...
I smoked grass every day for 14 years. I stopped last January as it was obvious that I had become dependent on it. Its not a physical addiction like nicotine, its more of a social addiction - you begin to get to a position were you feel that you can't get through a situation, or even a day without a joint. Its funny at first, but you eventually find yourself in situations where you start to think to yourself that you would like a joint and you know that you really shouldn't or can't, which makes you twitchy and irritable. It would happen with anything that you do regularly for a long period of time - I know of several people that have the same problem with tea and/or coffee but refuse to admit it.
But dependency isn't the worst part of the mental risks...paranoia is by far the worst. The nature of the drug is that with long term use your sense of paranoia will increase dramatically. Some people can't handle this and literally break down - I'm sure you've heard horror stories of people who have become mentally ill by using the drug. Personally I noticed it happening and I was able to rationalise it...but really I would say that mental stability really does depend on the person. In my opinion, this is definitely the worst risk. You need to constantly assess yourself.
Now personally I haven't smoked grass for six months and I do feel great for it - but occasionally I do enter a social situation where I feel that a joint would enhance it. I've reverted right back to how it was when I first started smoking. I've pledged to myself that I would leave it for at least a year to clean myself up a little and then if I fancy it in the future I will have it on occasion and only using a pipe for purity (I don't want to get mixed up with tobacco again).
I personally believe that its fine in moderation...and in many ways much less harmful than some legal drugs such as alcohol...but your physical and mental health should be constantly monitored by the user. Consider smoking it pure instead of with tobacco (yes I know its not as sociable as a long joint, but its better for you), consider sticking it in food (which will actually give you a longer and greater effect anyway) and never smoke brown, only green. Be honest with your doctor - tell him you smoke dope and get regular check ups. And generally, just be sensible with it.
Remember even though you probably think its cool to smoke grass, others may not. So don't presume that everyone wants to get involved with it. Relax and enjoy it my friend.

I don't know anything about the physical effects but the effects on your mental health and emotional development are not good. Basically, you keep yourself immature by numbing out a lot, and your thinking skills are impaired - so I'd start moving away from it if it's becoming an integral part of your life. What's cute at 20 looks pathetic at 40.

I've seen an interesting report on this a few weeks ago
Weed supposedly works on the middle part of the brain nl the organ that regulates the release of endorfin. It's supposed to permanently alter the funtioning of this organ and could lead to damage resulting in depression. Endorfin is the bodies happy hormone. Weed fools your brain into releasing a massive dose of endorfin in the blood. This causes the relaxed happy feeling you experience. Too much however can result in anxiety attacks and psychosis.
However that won't stop me having a good smoke.
Try to make a few real friends tough

An alcoholic will tell you he's not, until its too late to change his lifestyle usually, and a drug taker is the same and can be worse and its more harmful.
Believe me I used to enjoy weed many years ago so I know all the 'so-called' benefits, but also believe me it did change my life and I am thankful I managed to stop it years ago or I wouldn't be around today . that's fact.
Don't start, and now you've started, stop while you still can,
