Black has always been seen as a dark, mysterious, dangerous, unpleasant, bad color I guess. Like in books, black has been used as a symbol for generally bad things.
Anyway, would you take a bad guy seriously if he was dressed in light pink? lol i wouldn't.

Black is said to be an 'evil' colour. It is the colour of the darkness opposite to the lightness which is normally white.
Although not all bad guys wear black. Think of Charlies angels or The Mask of Zorro where the 'Good Guys' wear black.
Darth Vaders evil robotic army wears white suits and 'Ghosts' are normally white.

Before, the color black symbolized evil, dark forces and all that doom and gloom stuff.
Today, most good guys wear black.

The bad guy doesn't always wear black.
At times the bad guy appears as a beautiful angel of light.

normally black represents bad while white represents good. besides that, wearing black would be difficult to be discovered at night.
