Since photography is a service, can a photographer charge tax for shooting wedding pictures?

I don't think he can charge tax on the sitting fee, but on every other aspect I'm pretty sure he can. I'm sure these laws vary state by state and possibly even as local as various city governments may have their own regulations for this.

The photographer, like any business person, doesn't "charge" tax, but rather "collects" tax.

Under Michigan tax code, a service performed in relation to the sale of a product is taxable, so here yes.

The answer is YES because the photographer is a business and you are the customer.

If he works under the table, no.
He wouldn't be paying taxes on the money he makes, so why can he charge them?..to keep it!

Is it in your contract? You should have a written contract saying how much he is charging. That is all he can charge...
