I am not sure whether he is Sunni or Wahabbi but I can tell you for sure that he is NOT shiite.
In fact, he and his followers advocate the murder of Shiites as a duty and consider them infidels (and even worse than the other Christians and Jews whose murder he allows).
For example, Zarquawi who was in Iraq killed Shiites primarily then focused on the American etc. soldiers.
These kind of people are sick.
PS I'm sure a lot of Muslims wouldn't even want him to be called a Muslim

None of the above. As the ex-patriate of an Islamic state (Saudi Arabia) he has also renounced his religious ideology - since, as we all know, religion and government are one and the same in an Islamic state.
Thus, bin Laden is an ex-patriate atheist. He issues commands with a religious bias because this is how he manipulates his followers. He took a lesson from the Islamic clerics who still run middle eastern states, and who can still lay claim to being "religious". The only evidence that they are in fact not is their lust for violence.
I feel sorry for the citizens of those Islamic states, who on average are probably peaceful people - just as the Christians in the U.S. are on average peaceful. But because the religious extremists advocate violent behaviour in both countries, we have wars that no one wants to fight.
The approval ratings in this country prove my point. A majority of peaceful, Christian Americans do not want this war. We are driven by the minority of violent Christians, just as the majority of peaceful Islamics are driven by a minority of violent clerics, and in the case of bin Laden, a violent atheist.

I would be inclined to think he is Wahabbi. He could be Sunni, but more likely Wahabbi.

He is a Sunni and also a follower of Qutbism. Qutbism is often confused with Wahhabism, but is not the same. See citations below.

Wahhabi, I think. It's the predominant sect in Saudi Arabia although there are authors out there that specifically deny that he is. I think many assume that he's basically trying to or is forming his own sect specifically based on the more militant tenets of the religion.
