No, all that glitters is not gold!
First of all forget about all those numbers, the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. That is to say that it is more about how the parts work together. I would always go for a Intel processor but not a celeron and from experience I know that machines built by the big names just work better; more reliable. I would rather by a second hand Compaq with slightly lower spec than a new machine by some less well known manufacturer. Also to consider is what software is included, xp home is rubbish make sure you get xp pro.

Hope that helps PP

For what you're using it for it's fine. The only thing that may be a little slow on the net is if you use Google Earth with onboard video, but otherwise it's a great package. To use DSL you will need some sort of network card installed unless it is USB.

this does not include an ethernet card so that you could use the dsl service. It includes a dial-up modem. I do also have to say that I dont like Intel processors, and I HATE Celerons. But overall it does look like a good buy. You should get it and upgrade it.

I would suggest you to go get a Dell computer. Better reliability and performance. It maybe a little more expensive but trust me, it's worth it. They have a wide range of desktops you can choose from. If you're looking for a computer to just download music and for the internet you can buy a basic one for only $299. But if you're really into music and media they have one just for that but it's going to be around $649, I'm assuming that's over your budget if you're only looking for one around $230. But it's all up to you. No pressure. Go to www.dell.com and browse around. You'll find one you will like.

That's a very good price, and that computer is quite capable for all of your needs. The only thing that that computer won't be able to do is perform Hi-Def video editing or play any games with high graphics demands (essentially any new game.)

No gaming then this is already enough; concern of "VGA On Board" but that could easily remedied with an add-on card afterwards if found not good.

Hi! How about getting a more powerful processor that can last you longer for a few years? Celeron is really outdated.
Are there any USB ports on this computer? If not, you should be getting the USB ports.

that is honestly not bad for the price, plus the parts warranty, does it have onboard LAN? you want an ethernet card too to connect to your dsl. if it does not have one, get one from walmart (or whatever store you have like that there) for like $15. You will probably want to add more RAM if you plan on rendering dvd's.

Super computer... for that price you won't find any better... two things: HDD is a little bit thin, but enough if you do not download tons of movies... and you won't be able to upgrade to Windows Vista (but who needs it?)
