I have seen more westerners who make fun of people real in front of them, they don't even know the basic of human rights, for them it is their right to do whatever they want, but they dont know that their right should not affect others!!In Asia people respect other feelings!I think they are more civilized!

If you think Communists are more civilized.

No, to be honest, it's a completely different culture. In our culture, we are taught to were our emotions on our sleeves, we are a very extroverted, and outspoken culture. Introverted people are treated as strange and different.

In Asia, they are more reserved, they control their emotions, and don't readily display them. They are introverted. There, loud obnoxious behaviour is treated as strange.

The East was considered culturally superior to the west for centuries...

It's the same way anywhere you go.

Asia's a big continent. Could you be more specific? And which country are you holding up as a model of human rights? Singapore where the media is watched over like a hawk? The Philippines where journalists get gunned down for doing their job? China where the one child policy is still in place last time I looked? India and Pakistan who's always on the verge of going into war with each other?

The West has its share of problems and I think they're well aware of them. All I'm saying is that you should have a larger world view than what's apparent from your question.

Actually, these days more and more Asians are BECOMING westerners. The societal differences between the large cities of Asia and the western world are getting smaller and smaller. Maybe in the smaller rural hillside villages the traditional Asian society still exists, but in places like Tokyo, Shanghai, Seoul or Hong Kong, the only way you could tell you weren't in America would be all the writing in characters. Otherwise, the people in the cities are very much cosmopolitan and westernized.

The reason that it may appear that way is because Americans follow an individualistic approach to society and daily life. Many Asian countries follow a collectivistic way of life which makes it appear that they are more cohesive in group membership and it may seem that they have better developped family values.

As far as your notion of "more civilized" extends to - that's just something very arbitrary & can't be clearly answered. It's your notion versus theirs If you think of social restraint or manners, there are different beliefs of that here and in various Asian countries. In China, for example, what we think of being a well-mannered person is something different there as they have different social constructs. There have been reported efforts of teaching them (through various courses) to abide by our set criteria of being well-mannered. If we are the way you say we are, then the course would have been a disaster. But it seems that these courses are actually catching on.

I love Asian people, and most of my friends are Asian, but you are wrong about this. Asian people may not show disrespect to your face (although some do), but that doesn't mean that they're all as nice as pie and don't make fun of people behind their back. Some Asians can be very cold and distant, and unable to show affection or other emotions (just as some Caucasians can be). Some can be very selfish and materialistic. You cannot generalize about an entire race of people or nationality. There are good and bad things about Asian culture, but some of them are definitely bad.

One thing that can be said about East & West is that they are different! And they should be. Even in a country/state/city/locality people differ from each other. Even siblings don't show similar behavioral traits. That makes life so colorful & exciting. How horrible life would be if we all thought, said and did same things!

In west more thrust has been on physical/material aspects of life as a result life is faster & people straight forward in their approach. They say what ever comes to mind at that moment. Once you say what ever comes to mind, life become easier, one has more time for material things!

East has been more contemplative. Stress remained on meta-physical. People think twice before saying something. As a result they seem more polite. But they spend more time thinking about/analyzing people/situations, so less time to really do something!

Just wrote down what came to mind, no proof of hypothesis. Hope nobody minds.

Basically, Asians are more shy, reticent and more cultured and generally more respectful not arrogant. I wouldn't call westerners as uncivilized as if you're labelling them to be barbaric. They are just more open, frank,
and intolerant of others. Many modern Asians now esp the ones who are born here are more westernized.

everyone in answers is expressing some anger towards your statement,
i do not think you meant to offend, because i see it disturbs you about westerners who make fun of people in front of them..
so i believe you are probably a kind person,

The problem is, that ignorance about the "big picture" along with making a statement that is very general just stirs emotions,

be careful, not to become the person you dislike,

Our world is so mixed up, and misinformed about he rest of lthe world, because of lies, lack of honest communication, greed power, and thousands of reason i do not know,,
therefore, i am confused, and i personally do not know enough to make statements, as yours,

It would probably be bettter to just state your dislike for people to make fun of other cultures, and things like that,
and how it makes you feel,

also, you could easily say that you experienced in Asia many people respect others, and how good it was,

but i assure you, not all even there show continuos respect,
we all need to show respect for others, even if we disagree with them.

Some asians think it's acceptable to expose girl babies so they can have a boy instead. That doesn't seem very civilized to me. Asians are no more civilized than Westerners.

You're partly correctly.

Asian culture was borne out of respect, fear of authority and discipline.

However, most asians today are very westernized and although they do retain some of their asian ways, make no mistake about it, today's asians are quite different from the past generations.

Peace.

i have had asian people point at me and make fun of me (while laughing) in public and strangers at that. they also stare a lot for no reason.

so, no, they are not more civilized or more human.

no race is more human or civilized if it comes to that. each race has good and bad people.
