This is the second week I got my ears pierced. I've had the same spot pierced before, and it had a really nasty infection, and it closed up. About 6 months later, I pierced it again, and now I have another infection. I've used the ear care product that came with the ear piercing, but that doesn't seem to be of any help. Are there any other methods? My ear lobe is now swollen and it hurts pretty bad.

I have 4 pierces, 2 on each ear lobe. Only this one got infected, twice. I can wear any kind of materials and not limited to gold or silver. So I know I CAN have ear pierces, I just don't know why THIS one is always infected. Is it because I should've waited longer until it was completely healed and pierce it again? and how long would that be? thanks

change the jewelry out immediatly to something more appropriate-no the studs used for ear piercing guns are not appropriate. They are to small, use cheap metals, and the butterfly back is a harbor for bacteria. Also the solution they give you is entirely to harsh to be used. Switch to using a sea salt soak (1/4 tsp to 8oz warm water) for 10min 2x a day. This will get blood flow to the ear, which will help and also allow it to relax and drain. Also tea tree oil is a wonderful antiseptic which can soak into the sink, unlike peroxide and alcohol which only affect the surface tissue and cause damage to any new cell grow-thus slowing down healing. It can be bought in the first aid aisle of your pharmacy, as its a bit harsh you should dilute it down a bit before applying. I cannot stress enough the use of neosporin or other ointments is simply a bad idea, they will allow bacteria a perfect sticky place to set up and will suffocate the piercing...even the box says not for puncture wounds, piercings are punctures. I have quite a few files on my yahoo group that you might like to read-mainly why needle piercing is better than gun piercing. Have a look

What I have seen work every time is to:
1) Take a tube of NEOSPORIN and push the tip of the tube tightly against the piercing.
2) Squeeze the tube until the ointment goes thru the piercing and a bead appears on the opposite side of the earlobe.
3) Antiseptically cleanse the posts of the earring (everytime) and insert after the Neosporin.
The infection should be reduced within a day and gone shortly thereafter. If it is not or it is accompanied by fever, spreading pain, etc. *** SEE A DOCTOR ***

Ear infection from an ear piercing is caused by not keeping the new piercing properly cleaned. You have to clean your ears 3 times a day with ear care solution. Alcohol and peroxide dry out the piercing making it more susceptible to infection. Make sure that you rotate the earring so the solution gets inside. Wash your hands before you touch your ears. Clean your ears after swimming or perspiring. The earrings that are used for ear piercing is hypoallergenic. Which means you should not have any allergic reaction to the earring.

I would definitely try changing the earring out. Like the other people have said, try something that is a pure metal. To help clear up the infection when you wake up, after you shower, anytime you put anything in your hair and before you go to bed wash it out with an antibacterial soap and some water. You can use alcohol or hydrogen peroxide, but soap and water works just as well. I would also put something like neosporin on there during the day. It would also help if you wore your hair up so that the oils and products you use on it doesn't get into the open infection.

Try camphophenque or neosporin. You may have to accept that you are not able to have pierced ears. I had pierced ears for close to 30 years, but I had to wear surgical steel or 14K gold. Out of nowhere, I developed an allergy and am no longer able to where earrings at all, no matter what they are made of.

Could it be you are having a bad reaction to the metal in the earring? My sister and my mother cannot wear some costume jewelry because they have this this problem sometimes.

I've always had good luck with Bactine. You can get it at any drug store...just pour the liquid on the infected site...it also kills pain, so it won't hurt as bad either.

Have a friend pee all over your ear. I hear pee cures ear infections.
