You were nearly twice the legal limit for DUI in most states.

For all means, get an attorney. Shop around and find the best one in your jurisdiction. It may seem expensive, but not anywhere near as expensive as a DUI on your record would be.

Bartenders may be a good resource for selecting which attorney is the most successful, but not necessarily.

It would be best to find an attorney who formerly was with the prosecutors office, especially if that attorney was in charge of prosecuting DUIs.

If you had a BAC of 0.147, unless you are very thin, those were some very strong drinks.

If you can afford it, see a specialist lawyer who deals every day in dUI cases.

I suggest you visit the court before your hearing and (1) see how these cases work -- that will make you less apprehensive and (2) meet a couple of lawyers who act in DUI cases regularly.

This is a specialized field of work, technical expertise is needed. Sometimes the lawyers find mistakes in the prosecution case. At the very least a lawyer will get you the best deal possible, and may get your fine reduced enough to pay the amount of his fee. Or make a deal with the prosecution to drop one of the counts. That's something you couldn't do yourself.

But when talking to a lawyer be careful. Read between the lines: he may let you dream on, but if he's any good he won't directly mislead you. You can ask what percentage of cases he wins, or gets the charge reduced in, etc.

Good luck.

You were over the legal limit.
Plead guilty.
Do your time (most likely community service).
Thank God you didn't kill anyone, and don't do it again.

Oh, and grow up!
