What a nice question! Interesting. Never thought about it....well....recently i guess.
I think it's because laughter is a great thing and lots and lots of people will always want to join in on laughter, it brings the mood up, the spirit up too. Crying and sadness, people comfort and try not to cry because they are trying to be strong for the sad crying one!
Make sense?

Well you are half right. You do cry alone. But in the real world you laugh alone most of the time to. We are individuals, on a solo journey.

Because it's easy to relate when someone is happy. When someone is sad and upset, the majority of people feel uncomfortable and don't even want to deal with you. Some people do want to help or sympathize with you but don't know how to react or what to say or do so they leave you alone too.

Guess crying is connected to pain (emotional , physical), but there are lot of ppl who enjoy pain and they are called masochists, so if u want a group crying join one.

bec when we cry, we felt so alone and psychologically, we thought no one wants to cry with us. we just didnt know that people cry with their hearts and they laugh with their faces.
