gurl it is never too late to follow your dreams in life, do what you think is best for you and in the long run you will accomplish what you have always dreamed of. Age has nothing to do with following your goals that you set for yourself. Make life better not only for you but for your daughter cause you now live for her and i bet you want the best for her. keep your head up and believe that dreams do come true. wishing you the best.

If you're starting school take a couple of music classes. A beginning piano class and an introduction to theory class. That should take up 5 or 6 units. The next semester take a chorale class and drop the beginning piano. Stay with the theory; move on to the next level.
A karaoke bar is cool for working on your audience chops and whatnot, but you want to broaden your scope. Keep doing the karaoke thing but, look for other venues. And NEVER, EVER, pay somebody for the "privilege to sing." If someone is telling you it cost money to do an audition they are scamming you.
You can Google "Jam Sessions + (your hometown)" and get some interesting links to come up that might be very helpful. Here's a couple of links that you might find useful.

Another great resource is a church that has a good gospel choir. Check out a few churches in your area. Attend as a guest and listen to the choir and if you hear one that you like find out who the director is. Ask him or her questions, don't be shy. And this goes for anyone; If you ask questions about a persons musical skills and background and they start telling you about what you have to do and avoiding your question then you can pretty much figure that person is not someone who can help you move along in your musical career.
I hope this helps. Good luck and don't give up!

I want to be a singer too, but I'm a young girl. Do you have connections? I do. My aunt is president of Disney and my uncle is former pres. of Universal, current partner in a record company and plays in movie soundtracks. Good luck!

ya...good luck with that...do you know how hard it is to become a professional singer?? and do you know how many people in this world are trying to do it all at once? give up now, youre not gonna hit it big and youre not gonna become famous. stay in school and get a real job to make money like everyone else...the hard way.

Try sincerely and with dogged determination. Believe in yourself and God. You are only twenty. The whole "wide world" is open to you. But, do tread with care. Best of Luck !

Good luck with your ambition and it depends on where you live, but I live in UK and you can send your demos to record companies.
