Doppleganger is a German term meaning "double walker".
It is supposedly a sign of one's death approaching soon.
I've had friends who saw my double several times when I was younger, but as I have matured and become more of an individual in my personal style there have been no more reports of my "personal doppleganger".
The only way your double can "get the better of you" is if you give up your sense of self-identification and transfer it over to your doppleganger.
Stand tall and sure of yourself, and your doppleganger will dissolve into nothing.

No but I have heard that my doppelganger exists -same name, features, ect. A doppelganger is supposedly a copy of yourself. He/she exists in in a way like there can't be light without darkness. It's believed that if you ever meet your copy the universe will become imbalanced and one of you will have to die.

A Doppleganger was a feasable excuse during the middle ages for being caught behaving badly. People would claim it was their evil twin and be believed with all sincerity. Now we're better prepared as a society to hold others accountable.

i believe a doppelganger is supposed to be your 'evil self'. i have never see mine-have tried to no avail. sit in front of a mirror w/a candle between you and the mirror and stare at your reflexion for a period of time. this is supposed to work but it didn't for me. i don't really want to see mine anymore.

Yes, I have seriously met mine before. He comes in the form of a twin brother called Alex Tonkin. He is a complete and utter little bastard to me and one day I can forsee that we will fight to the death. He will not be victorious.
