George Orwell said that: "In a time of universal deceit - telling the truth is a revolutionary act."

Just wondering if people think this is the case?

Furthermore, do we live in a time of universal deceit?

Personally, I believe we do... :(

Every generation thinks so..

We all think that things have never been worse in this or that aspect..

Quite apocalyptic..

In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth may be a conservative act..

:-)

If by universal he meant widespread, then yeah, telling the truth could be kind of radical. Frankly, I don't think it's possible to be universally deceitful in the literal sense of the word. Then again, maybe I'm lying. >:-]

Do I think we live in a time of universal deceit? Well if I said yes, I'd be lying, so we really wouldn't be, but then I might not be lying, which would mean that we would be, but then....

Seriously though, I don't think so. Most people I know are decent people and good at heart. Then again, I don't personally know any politicians.

i believe so, yes... definitely.

deceit is what makes this world a fun place to live in. the challenge of proving how deceitful a person is, how deceitful one acts... the fun of humiliating him after... that's life. but hey, imagine a world of all truth, then a challenge would be difficult to obtain right? even an argument, a debate wouldn't emerge. and the fun of thinking, reasoning would be lost...

now, careful, i might be deceiving you with my answer... okay?

It would seem so to me. I tell the truth on my blogs and you should see the uproar it causes at times... not to mention the personal attacks and attacks on my pages and personal computer. The current administration really does not seem to like people who speak the truth, and they want to censor everything on the internet. I got banned from CyberBuddy for talking to a gay man about gay rights. Why? I used the awful curse word, "gay." What's next? Are they going to ban the word, "jelly?"

always. it is the nature of power. however, it is the nature of human to spew truth in an effort to shine its spotlight on the darkness of power. However, power, like all shadows, simply conforms and moves behind the light.

It is the ever-ending repetition of the human situation.

Get over it. Teach your children right from wrong, and how to circumvent both to their good-willed, their benesprit, needs, thus exerting power against itself.
