How. do you feel you have to be one way in certain situations, and different in others? Do you admit this regularly or struggle with it? this is open to anything you have to say.

Yes to some degree. From 8-5, I'm a businesswoman, a victim's advocate, prim & proper, politically correct, and basically a clean cut lady.
But I drive home to the edge of the ghetto...and I mean that literally. I am a divorced mother of 2 and I have to drive past liquor stores, the projects, through unemployed guys with their beer in brown paperbags and women spilling out of their clothes as they walk the road...
Then you get on my street. It's a mixed neighborhood with brick homes and nice yards but still right around the corner is poverty and lack of education and motivation.
When I go home, I transform from Ms. so and so to an around the way girl from the hood. I can't be going into my neighborhood getting in other people's business trying to tell them what they already know about what's right and wrong. I mind my business, have an alarm system set up to prevent break ins (had one when I first moved to the neighborhood), listen to my rap and R&B music and revert to some slang according to who I'm talking to.
This is not to put my people or my "hood" down. I love my Blackness but I know that in order to work as an officer of the court and be respected in the world of law enforcement and the courts I have to govern myself a certain way around lawyers, judges, and other officials.
So which am I, Ms. Prim Prude or Ms. Round the Way, actually neither...I am both rolled into one. I can suit up and present myself with such clarity that some would even question if I have ever heard of the ghetto and I can take it down a lot of notches and be comfortable taking a walk around the block and carrying on friendly conversation with the people that live around me. The thing that my double life makes me fully aware of is that there are good and bad people from all walks of life regardless of financial status, race, education, ethnic backgrounds, etc.

The life I live is the total opposite of what I feel I should be living. I don't like anything about my real life. Maybe thats why I fall asleep so easily...then I go to dreamland... the life I should be living.

I learned in my early 20's that it's better to be me in ALL situations. But lots of ppl are like what you're saying. Sometimes I guess it's easier to be what you think others will expect you to be. But I figure it like this...why try to please everyone when the only one you really have to satisfy is you!
