Goths wear all black, listen to industrial music, like vampires, and darkness.
Punks wear safety pins and band patches, listen to punk music, and hate authority.
Skaters wear vans/skate shoes, listen to metal, and ride skateboards.
Gangstas wear baggy clothes, listen to rap and hip hop, and drive lowriders/pimpcars.
Preps wear abercrombie fitch, listen to pop, are usually wealthier than the rest of us, and are involved in school activities.

I think all of which u mentioned have alot to do with attitudes and music types.
goths- followers of gothic music.. rock that usually evokes bleak and gloomy imagery.. often dress this way too. Looking at things that may seem morbid to alot of people such as death and looking at the beauty of it.

punks- disregard for everyone else, following the choice of freedom and independence, being confortable with who you are (this obviously doesn't apply to evryone who is confortable with being themselves)

Skaters- listen to metal/ rock and.. well skate

Preps- this one is alot about the way you dress, showing you don't care to show your wealth.

Gangstas- a person who trys intimidate, many carry a weapon, hang around in gangs and listen to rap ect. Personally i think this is the label where ther are alotta posers =\.

The goth subculture is a contemporary subculture prevalent in many countries. It began in the United Kingdom during the late 1970s to early 1980s in the gothic rock scene, an offshoot of the post-punk genre. The goth subculture has survived much longer than others of the same era. Its imagery and cultural proclivities indicate influences from nineteenth century Gothic literature, mainly through horror movies.

The goth subculture has associated gothic tastes in music and fashion. Gothic music encompasses a number of different styles. Common to all is a tendency towards a “dark” sound and outlook. Styles of dress within the subculture range from death rock, punk, Victorian, androgynous, some Renaissance style clothes, or combinations of the above, most often with black attire, makeup and hair.

The punk subculture is a contemporary subculture based on the punk rock musical style. It has a shared history, culture, lifestyle, and community. Since emerging in the United States and United Kingdom in the mid-1970s, punk has spread around the globe and evolved into a number of different forms.

Punk culture is based around a set of styles distinct from those of popular culture and other subcultures. Punk has its own styles of music, ideology, fashion, visual art, dance, literature, and film.

Punk is made up of an assortment of smaller subcultures, including anarcho-punk, crust punk, and horror punk, which distinguish themselves through unique articulations of punk culture. Several subcultures have developed out of punk to become distinct in their own right, such as goth, psychobilly, and emo.

Skate punk can also describe the fashion created by earlier skateboarders. The clothes worn by "skate punks" includes thrift store clothing or anything that openly rejects mainstream sweatshop labor clothing. A skate punk's attire will be strewn with holes and rips due to the hazards of skating itself.

A 'gangsta' is a person whose sole purpose is to harass and intimidate. In areas of the ghetto, Gangstas often litter the street in large gangs.

A Gangsta often carries weapons
A Gangsta's wardrobe mainly consists of hooded tops, caps, XXL T-shirts and many pairs of 'sneaks' (sneakers)
Most Gangstas have a limp in their leg so they bop across the street looking like fools, yet the intimidation factor remains.
A Gangsta follows rap music intensely. If a gangsta is unaware of a new tune he is a fake.
Gangstas store these tunes on their mobile phones.
Gangstas have no respect for others so they play music loud whilst situated at the back of bus.
A gangsta is not skilled in areas of fighting, thus they swing only with wild hooks and do not know how to jab. Gangstas fight dirty and always in numbers.
A Gangsta values his individuality, so he creates new words to replace the ones normal people use. Eg "Bruv" "Blad"
Gangstas preach about the terrible life they had and about how they live in the ghetto
Gangstas spend all day writing lyrics to beat each other in a lyrical battle. They then rap these lyrics to each other on the back of the bus or train.

In recent years, young people have begun to use the term "preppy" as slang to describe those who appear clean-cut or strive to seem better off financially than others in a middle class environment. In most regions, especially amongst young people, this usage has virtually replaced the traditional meaning of the word. Used in this manner, "preppy" is often applied contrary to the term's mainstream meaning stated above, as the slang version most often describes 'nouveau riche', publicly-educated people absorbed in the middle class hypermaterialistic pop culture pursuit of quality-made goods sold at prices for those who can pay for the best and most fashionable. As such, teenagers often apply this slang label to popular clothing not characteristic of "prepdom" such as American Eagle, Aéropostale, Hollister Co., and Abercrombie and Fitch (prior to the original company's bankruptcy in 1977, it in fact was a prep staple). These stores are typically cheaper than brand names such as Lacoste and are therefore more affordable to teens who want the "Preppy" look for under 200 dollars. However, the "New England prep" image is still strongly associated with current use of the word. Abercrombie's clothes, for example, often reference lacrosse, rugby, and crew; sports typically linked with the outdoorsy New England lifestyle.
