So, approximately one half of them may be destroyed within 7-8 years. And some are old. Still, they are a threat .... That still leaves over 3,000 nuclear weapons in our own backyards.
Hummmm. I guess that's enough to scare even those of us who live in the United States.
Much less our enemies.

The US is a Democratic society. The definition of democracy is each individual submits total executive, legislative and judicial authority to a bureaucracy in exchange for one vote and the opportunity to pay income tax. All minorities surrender all rights to issues put to vote. Social justice for the individual is supposed to be written into the constitution and defended by the bureaucracy.
Each region votes for representatives who work in the legislative branch. It is the legislators who collectively over the years approved to fund, build and maintain arms. The executive branch and armed forces are in control of the weapons. All decisions concerning the weapons are out of the hands of the society which it is designed to defend. It is my belief that WMD technology will be the Armageddon of the Earth. You or I have no say in the matter.
Freedom won by a democracy is lost within its constitution.

That stockpile caused the Cold War. It also ended the Cold War.

Living in a world where such a stockpile is not necessary is something that will never happen. I find it reassuring to know that our country has the ability to defend her shores, and to take a war to those that would do us harm. I would rather US troops fight in another country than to have to fight a war within the boundaries of the US. Collateral damage (including the deaths of civilians) is bad enough when it happens in another country. That stockpile is the biggest deterrent for our would-be-adversaries.

Think about it….

In case 2,500 break, we have to be prepared. Just kidding.

It is too much and the US spends too much on it's military. A lot of this is left over from the Cold War.
