It has happened. My partner Gwenneth and i were told that all long serving office staff had to take any long leave due to us. Gwen told me to take mine as she was "feeling tired". We planned my trip together and she asked me to take lots of lovely photographs. I had a wonderful trip but on returning, learned that she had died from a virulent cancer. Her family; who had despised us since we moved in together, claimed her body and buried her remains in their "church's" private plot. I visited her grave bearing flowers and guilt only to be confronted by a relative of Gwen's who warned me to stay away. You're LESBIAN? No, you're lessthannothing" I pushed past her to see the headstone which bore her date of birth and "UNKNOWN TO GOD". "Satisfied now \?" the woman said. She does not know, I hope how near I came to striking a heavy blow. I was consumed by a sick rage. Memory of Gwen's serene facing down of other relatives saved me from having blood on my hands.
My brother noticed my distress and eventually found psychiatric help for me. I am mostly recovered but forgiveness escapes me.
"From other later ills may come other pain but, please god, not that grief again"*

That not the most emotional thing that can happen to you, neither is what your about to read. But if this happen to you that would be the lest of your worries.
"The stench of the hold while we were on the coast was so intolerably loathsome, that it was dangerous to remain there for any time...but now that the whole ship's cargo were confined together, it became absolutely pestilential: The closeness[s] of the place, and the heat of the climate, added to the number in the ship, which was so crowded that each had scarcely room to turn himself, almost suffocated us. This produced copious perspirations, so that the air soon became unfit for respiration, from a variety of loathsome smells, and brought on the sicknes[s] amongst the slaves, of which many died, thus falling victims to the improvident avarice, as I may call it, of their purchasers. This wretched situation was again aggravated by the galling of the chains, now become insupportable; and the filth of the necessary tubs, into which the children often fell, and were almost suffocated. The shrieks of the women, and the groans of the dying, rendered the whole a scene of horror almost inconceivable."

Nevertheless you have this one
"The children were sold to a slave trader, and their mother was bought by a man in her own town. Before night her children were all far away. SHE BEGGED THE TRADER TO TELL HER WHERE HE INTENDED TO TAKE THEM THIS HE REFUSED TO DO. How could he when he knew he would sell them one by one, wherever he could command the highest price? I met that mother in the street, and her wild haggard face lives to- day in my mind. SHE WRUNG HER HANDS IN ANGUISH AND EXCLAIMED 'GONE! ALL GONE! WHY DON'T GOD KILL ME?"
I HAD NO WORDS WHEREWITH TO COMFORT HER, INSTANCES OF THIS KIND ARE OF DAILY YEA, HOURLY OCCURRENCE."

Witness another beheading by enlightened members of the religion of Islam or another woman beaten in public by her tolerant Muslim husband or the stoning to death of a woman suspected of adultery by peace loving Muslims or Muslim women having their genitalia mutilated on their wedding night, another quaint Islamic custom reserved for their women.
