what makes you think it is the maf ? have you had it checked for codes ? there are several different sensors the will cause the check engine light to come on, it may be just a bad plug and the o2 sensor is reading high on emissions or rich exhaust. before you start spraying sensors with carb cleaner, you better find out what code or codes that have been set. spraying carb cleaner on some sensors will cause them to read incorrectly because of the film or residue that is left behind when it drys, there are also low fluid levels that can cause the light to activate also. when the check engine light does come on it could be one of several sensors that will cause this, if one sensor fails it will affect another one and then another one, to determine which sensors are bad, you will have to scan the codes and find which sensors set a hard code and fix that problem first. trying to fix a problem when you have a soft code can get extremely costly

Are you sure that you have a Carb on a 98,,, wouldn't that be an AFI? I would try adding a Wynn's (tune up in a can) or some fuel injector cleaner, and run some hi-test gas for a week or two or even add that Octane boost 104+
You can probably pick up a code reader for about $75-$125 that should give you a good idea of what the problem is, and also has the capabilities of resestting the computer to get rid of the SES light.
My honest guess is that it could be something to do with the plugs and wires.

you don't clean em you replace em Maff or Map it has two, or are you saying mass airflow sensor that's different that a maf, if you had a bad one the check engine light would be on and stay on, caused by a Spike in the alternator that's what knocks them out, if you have a ruff running car u need to have it properly diagnosed, could be a low cylinder Burt valve , don't start changing or cleaning things if you don't know you will make it worse its a computer controlled vehicle not a screwdriver and hammer vehicle u need special tools and equipment to do this and some mechanical ability on what to look for or do it your way and it will just stop running all together OK, take to a good shop have it properly diagnosed or Good ASE shop or Dealer, take care

Most guys look better clean shaven. But then you get guys like Dominic Monaghan, who definitely looks better with a little scruff. The thing is, scruff is a small bit of hair, not the full blown beards hipsters are sporting these days. That just looks like Duck Dynasty - nasty.

if the ses light blinks at you it alway means there is a significant misfire that causes you not to burn all the air fuel mixture
