Their illusions/delusions. That covers stalkers, serial killers who kill certain 'types' (the 'same' person over & over)...
uh, religious fanatics, women who stay with violent men who beat them...
actually illusions cover just about everything. Then again, they also keep us going so I guess it's just when they get out of hand.
