my bestfriend and my girlfriend are roommates 17 hours from me. my girlfriend gets too stressed and uptight with school so me and my friend want to play a trick on her. we want something harmless and fun. it would be best if cheap and easy. most of the pranks i have found online had something to do with hurting or messing up the room itself, that cant be done since they share a room.
i was thinking just tying a string from their door to the girls across the hallsdoor.(they dont like them)... then it could be a double prank...
any help is greatly appreciated.

My favorite is to put peanut butter on the toilet seat and loosen the lightbulb in the bathroom. This will get a reaction and it is cheap. Fun pranking........................

When I was in college, one time I helped a couple of roommates swap all of their stuff with the stuff in another dorm room (of course this requires that you include the "other room's tennants" in the prank) while the "instigator" took the mark out for a few beers... by the time they returned, the mark was sooo drunk that he actually fell for it and spent about 15 minutes trying to appologize for "waking up" the people in on the prank and refused to believe us when, laughing like hyenas, we tried to fess up.
Maybe more work than you want, but... they still talk about it when everyone manages to get together at reunions, etc.
The other prank I recall was pulled on me, and was kind of lame, in the grand scheme of things... we were at a restaurant, and I went to bathroom; when I returned, the staff did their standard birthday routine (which as I recall, was kind of an embarassing song) and refused to believe me when I told them I had been framed... my friends managed to video tape it, so I got to re-live the experiance multiple times :-( but at least I got a free dessert out of the deal.

Hmmm....
How about you get a delivery guy to show up with something embarrassing? I dunno ... something they'd never order, you know them. He could knock on all the doors looking for your friend with like ten pizzas or a thigh-buster.
or....
Take a boom box and put a super-duper sappy song on in the hallway of the dorm ... and then use masking tape to make arrows on the floor pointing to their dorm room. It'd be perfect if she and her boyfriend has a "their song".
or ...
Put saran-wrap over the door frame ... and have a magic marker on a string ...and encourage the other dormers to write why "judy is the best" ... or wotever her name is.
or ...
Well .. there are plenty of ideas that are harmless if you just want to tease them. The idea is that they have to discover it and assume it's "like, totally embarrassing" when it's just pointing attention at them!

if you have calling waiting on your phone, try this
dial popcorn[ time] and click to second line., call her on her room phone or cell phone and when she answers all she will hear is a recorded voice telling her the time every 10 seconds..this is harmless and not messy and safe
