Yes, it is quite normal. You are fortunate that you don't have cramps or other system. Listen to your doctor because he/she gave you good advise.

You are totally describing what happens to me every month. Irregular periods are usually common for the first few years, as your doctor said. The blood flow takes regulation in the ovaries to settle down, and that can sometimes take at least half a decade. In my case, I haven't had my period for 4 months now, and if I do, it's a small sprinkle for about 1 day.
Just try to watch your patterns a little more, and if they continue, consult your doctor again. Sometimes the pressure between the ovaries can cause over blood flow, and can cuase anesthetic outcomes.
But, if it comes back normal within 6 months, don't worry about it anymore. It's just hormones.

I had the same exact symptoms when I first started menstrating. I would get my period every six months or so, or three times a year, and they would be normal....seven days, normal flow. Then, whammo.....a few days later I had to wear overnight pads.
It sucks that you're experiencing this and it will pass. What I did, even though I wasn't having sex at the time, is go on birth control. It regulates your periods, so you get them monthly, and there's no "guessing" as to when you are going to get it.
If you're a smoker, I don't recommend this though as those who use the pill shouldn't smoke...it can cause blood clots. I hope that I helped you. Good Luck!

Yes you should go and see another doctor. You know your body better then anyone and if you feel nervous about this then you should have it looked at again. To me, 10 days is along time to bleed so I would go myself. Good-luck
