Depends what is the spouse incarcerated for? Will the spouse in question hold you responsible for not being able to live up to your financial obligations, even thought the spouse dose not live up civilly or financially?

Will it really matter to him if you move to a more affordable place? He'll probably be happy that you're suffering less financially. Don't tell him all the drama with the roommate, just say you want a change of scenery.
