They really are growing up too fast but I would like to say that we can sit here and try to blame MTV and the media. However we are talking about little children. Why are the parents purchasing items such as mascara and thongs. As a parent I am ashamed that other parents do this. ALso shouldnt we moderate what are children are watching. Parents stop working so much and pay attention to your children. Please dont say they get these items from their friends. Then dont let them be friends with those children. Lets help our children stay children for a while.

I'd guess this is a set-up question where everyone agrees.

What we need is some perspective ... and most people hate perspective.

Children want to grow up. They want to be adults. The want to copy their hero, mom, dad, older brother.

It's only in the last 100 years that we've sheltered our children and extended "childhood" until the age of ...what .. 18? 21?

100 years ago and for 10 thousand years backwards, it was common and accepted for a 13 year old girl to get married.
I know, it blows my mind to think of that .. but it's true.

At the age of 16, boys were men and leading cattle drives through Indian territory and fighting and ...well, killing people. If you can imagine your son doing that - I know I couldn't.

My point is that I think it's part of our ... DNA? Something in us wants to grow up fast. So, if you ask do I think our children are growing up too fast ... I'd say, they want it and it must be directed.

Yes I think that parents are allowing their children to grow up too quickly. I think they are doing this because they weren't equipped to actually parent when they had that cute little baby (baby's are baby's for about 60 seconds). In trying to make their kids happy all the time, they forget that parenting is about teaching through example, encouraging good citizenship within the society they live in, and being responsible for the maturation of their child through its life towards adulthood.

That doesn't mean allowing your daughter to dress like a whore and your son to dress like someone who cannot pull their pants up.

Raising children with good character takes good character and the ability to do what's right, not just what's easy.

You are a very wise teenager, apparently your parents are doing a great job with you!

Yes,children are growing up quite rapidly, however you said it best. It is the paren't responsiblity, but I guess you can't move on what you don't know. Sad, children can't even enjoy chilhood anymore before being thrust out into this cunning world. But you keep up the good work! Blessings.

I worked at Bath & Body Works this summer and have had TONS upon TONS of at least 10 yr old girls (although they could be younger I have no idea) walkin in with LOTS of Victoria Secret bags...and I know for a FACT that they aren't buying the sweatshirts/pants.....

...they were getting all the hooker-esque/skimpy undies.

...and we wonder why we have so many sexual pervs out there?

Well for one thing, as I am a teen, i would just like to say that we are all too smart for our own good, and we will lead the world to its downfall. And in regards to your question is yes. My cousin, who is 11, has had 8 boyfriends already... We have to find a way to stop this, or at least contain it.

As a parent I see where you are coming from. Our society is in a state of moral decline. Parents who allow this type of activity are not doing there job of parenting.
