i dont think it matters just as the fantasy sport does not intervene with the athlete's in-game performance. Such as allowing an opponent to win in real life so he can earn fantasy points.

If I were an owner, I don't think I would want my players to participate in the fantasy sport the athlete actually does for a living. It would be next to impossible to regulate, so what can owners do? As much as I love fantasy sports, I hope it never interferes with the actual game being played.
Hate to be a picky, but a quick grammar review:
there: i.e. There is something I have to tell you. My car is over there.
their: possessive, i.e. Are pro athletes allowed to do fantasy sports for their sport? This is their ball.
they're: they are, i.e. They're so happy the Packers won.
one other extremely common mistake not at all related to this Yahoo! question, but:
anxious vs. eager: Anxious properly means "filled with anxiety," not "eager." Don't say you're anxious for school to end unless the ending of school makes yo ufeel fearful.

I'm sure they do it all the time. As long as they're not wagering on the games themselves, they won't get into any trouble.
However, coaches etc have gotten into trouble for being in Final 4 pools.

i know many mlb and nba players actually do this, they also have celebrity leagues where retired players/celebs do fantasy sport leagues together. you can check out www.nba.com and just search fantasy, you'll find it. pretty hilarious too.

The internet provides something called anonymity....meaning they could play and nobody would ever know...unless somebody was spying on them or something....
