I am on Employment Insurance right now as i've been laid off in May, (we live in Toronto, Canada). Hubby is in dental field and just starting out and pay isn't that great($14/hour) We have some saved up money for house downpayment but i dont honestly know when it's going to happen, maybe never:( I want to have a child, not so badly, but the desire is there. Hubby is not sure if we'll survive on saved up money. I know that we won't survive on his paycheque alone.
I dont know what to do...Frustrated, with desire and financially unstable...
How much are the supplies for newborns? Anything else you can think of?

find all the statistics you can on how fertility DECREASES once a woman reaches the age of 30. i had 4 children while i was in my 20's NO PROBLEM. but to have another baby we had to go through 9 months of infertility treatments BECAUSE my age decreased my hormone levels, hence changed my ability to ovulate normally because i didn't have enough hormone to even mature my eggs... and then not enough hormone to kick the eggs out... so i kept getting cysts. then i would have to have surgery to get rid of the cysts... LONG STORY, sorry... but after THOUSANDS of dollars trying to get pregnant it finally worked. i'm having twins in april... but if i had JUST tried for the last baby before i hit 30...
normal expenses: diapers $50 per month
formula $60 per month
clothing $50 per month
hygene products $10 per month
if you have a wonderful family they can probably help with the initial costs at a baby shower:
crib & bedding
burp clothes & bibs
diaper bag
bottles
baby swing
CAR SEAT (how did i almost forget that one?)
BEST OF LUCK with your upcoming decision... oh, and for what it's worth, no one thinks that they can afford their first child!

I've been asking the same question--but for my 2nd child. With my first my husband and I weren't really planning although we both wanted children very badly. We were making about $2.55 an hour with tips (which came out to roughly $5/hr). He worked 2-3 jobs at the time and I worked one and went to school. It was difficult. I ended up leaving him and living with my parents for a long time. We decided to get back together and it was the best decision i've ever made.
Anyway, we dont make much. We're both in our early early 20s and I'll tell you at times it was rough. But our baby has never wanted for anything. She is well cared for and happy. We never had to be on welfare. We just figured out a budget and stuck to it! My hubby is planning on pharmacology and it will be along time coming for money. But we have faith and keep our chins up. The baby is here, whatelse can we do.
Here is my greatest advice to you. Your body isnt getting any younger and the longer you wait the higher possibility of your child having genetic, or you having pregnancy, problems. That's expensive. If you decide to have a child and things get tight there ARE always loans you can take out, churches who will help and govt programs if you absolutely must. God usually finds a way. If you were younger, I'd say maybe wait, but honestly, if you wait too long you'll only guarantee an expensive pregnancy. :)

Wait till you get more financially stable. $14.00 an hour isn't enough for a family of three even if your get unemployment. You will feel better when you can offer more to a baby. Are you going to stick your baby in daycare at 12 weeks of age? Are you going to be a stay at home mom? Your baby needs your love, time, and attention for the first 3 years of life. Think about the impact it will have on your marriage if you are struggling. Babies are not cheap if you want to be able to give them a lot. You don't want to have to scrimp you want to be able to purchase the cute clothes even if it is second hand shops or yard sales. Wait till you can offer your child all of your love, time, and attention. If you have to stick that child in daycare as a newborn that is selfish.

I live in Canada, but in SK. newborns are not that expensive if you decide to breast feed. I do not so formula costs me and my husband about $140.00 a month + diapers wich we just use the Wal-Mart brand about $30-40.00 a month + she needs clothes wich when they are new are mostly given to you at your shower, but they grow so fast so you need to consider that + toys and learning items, rocker table, swing, etc. + somewhere to sleep, there are alot of things that can be given to you, but you must consider that the cost of babies goes up as fast as they grow, then they start asking for money. School expenses, ect. ect. ect.

If wait too much longer to make a baby it will have an increased chance of being born with the gloids. Also your husbands penis and sperms will not last forever eventually he will dry up and it will fall off.

If you wait until your financially ready to have a child, you'll never have one. The more money you make the more you spend. How about waiting until your emotionally ready...the rest will fall into place.
