for example, bubba sparxx, eminem, they are rappers, and they are white, we embrace them and support them.....basically we listen to their music

but artists like fefe dobson are called posers because they're rock artists....

why is that? i just find it unfair, sure, not ALL people of like that but some are, and it shouldnt be like that

You are so right... it's not fair!

-------------------------------------

I my case, I'm latin-american. I like rock music, and some of my favorite bands are Dave M. Band, Living Colour and King's X. Some people I know do not like them 'cause the have afro-american players. That's just stupid!!! They say rock is like a "white" movement but it came from blues... duh!!!

I have to say that's in Colombia... I don't know in the USA but it seemed to me you're more advanced on that overther... anyway, that's my personal opinion.

This is an interesting question...

I'm not sure that you're absolutely right having that opinion but I definitely can see how you could think that...

Whoever said that rap is purchased mainly by white males was right, it's been that way for some time now...The thing is, those sells are mainly coming from teenagers and it seems that most white men over, say, the age of thirty don't consider rap music...Could this possibly be the group that you're referring to?

Besides that, you have to look at the music genre you're talking about...Sure Eminem is white, but he's also a great rapper...A lot of black people like rap, and thus are willing to support a great rapper regardless of race....Also, look at the the prominent black producer behind him, the same can be said for Bubba Sparxx...When was the last time that the majority of us (black people) bought a country album? See what I'm saying?

Here's where the flip side of it all comes in, I love Fefe, but I'm sure the majority of her audience is white, simply because of the genre of music she performs...While Eminem is pretty much guaranteed to outsell the majority of black rappers, will she ever debut higher than Brittney Spears? Probably not...She's more talented, but I'd say a lot less marketable due to her race...

At the end of the day, I say you've got it about 30% right....

It's unfair but that's the way it is...

Dear Cocoathunder, Your question strikes me as coming from a young person, & normally I would not answer, but with the hope of setting your mind to rest I am going to give it a try. Your question is one of perception and therefore subjective, thus attempting to answer requires you to open your mind a little. It is not that your are wrong, or right, it is just that your question seems somewhat emotionally based.
While it is true that there are many inequities in the world, especially in regard to race relations, & many things "shouldn't" be the reality is they are what they are. Your perception that "white people" don't support fefe dobson due to the fact of his race is as biased as what you are accusing "white people" of. All generalities are inherently wrong. If one person likes or dislikes someone's music it has very little to do with race. Let's use Prince or Jimi Hendrix as an example. This line of reasoning, you have presented, is circular & goes nowhere. What is more important is what your taste appreciates as opposed to whom else or whtever racial group thinks believes, or likes. "Be true to thy self & thy will be false to no man."

"Not fair? You keep saying that. I wonder what your basis for comparison is." - the goblin king in labrynth

There is no "fair" in life because there will always be someone who thinks things aren't "fair". The majority of the music industry and athletics seems to be comprised of mostly black musicians and athletes. Now because a group of individuals you know (individuals mind you, not an entire ethnic group) don't like a particular musician you accuse all whites of failing to support black people.

Music is a matter of taste, not race. There are white people that LOVE rap and black people that enjoy opera and classical music. In all honesty, someone using the slang term "poser" is hardly a representative of my group, ethnic or otherwise. But please remember that for every artist, black, white, oriental, latin or otherwise there will always be people who don't like them. There are also people who think in stereotypes who group roles in life by race. These are the people who assume all basketball players must be black to be any good, or that most scientists are white.

So long as people look at a small sample of ANY group (determioned by any common factor be it race, age, gender etc) and assume ALL members of that group are identical, racism will never end. I do not by the way call it "reverse racism". Racism against ANY race is still racism. Period.

You're just being sensitive about a comment made by an individual. This is a false generalization. There are many great rockers revered by all rockers of all races. Get off your soap box and open your eyes to the true rock legends. I will only name one. Jimi Hendrix.

You're supporting a style of music that is done well by someone who happens to be white. I've never heard of Fefe Dobson, so I can't say that I support him or not. I think you're making a generalization that isn't necessarily accurate.

Are you kidding? What if an equivalent to BET came out like WET (white entertainment television)? Besides, I don't like Fefe Dobson nor Bubba Sparxx's music.

i know
i also disagree with the guy who said 80% of the rap albums are bought by white people. I dont know a white person who has ever bought a rap album. Whites dont like colored people comin into their territory but we have been fair with rappers like paul wall, eminem, bubba sparxx

thats far from accurate... look at jimi hendrix and the hendrix experience. they were all black and they rocked... bob marley. theres some other good bands out there too. that are black. the onlything thats black that i dont see most whites supporting is rap. i dont support eminem or them because its rap and well... i dont find rap to be music but thats just my oppinion. and i dont care what color you are as long as you have good tunes.
