Aren't people what make swear words swear words? Now people use them like they're not. People decide what the swear words are, so they change through time. It's not like there's some Bible or Constitution that officially determines timeless swear words. I mean, in the old days, "devil" used to be a curse word as in "who the devil are you?" Now it's not. Do you think the same with "f*ck" and "sh*t" because now people use them as regular words- so do you think they'll officially become no longer profane and some new swear words will come along?

They are still swear words, just accepted by a larger scale of people who don't take offense when used in normal speak. Used in anger or disrespectfully, they regain their "strength".

People get more upset now when "politically incorrect" words are used, such as fag, midget, dyke, retard, etc. They are frowned upon moreso than curse words.

Well, you are right! Even television has "pissed off" written into the script. The associative meaning is lost by over-use.

I'd not call them swear words any more, I'd call them .. um ... "declaritives".

And it's a good thing, it's a more open society and our cultures are crossing and therefore excelling.

There will always be a level of politeness, I think. Certain arenas will always shun vulgar language because it's just that -- vulgar. Yet, everyday life and pop and common culture use those words now ....sometimes with zest!

They are still "swear" words because of exactly how you wrote them. Yes they change with time, but if people are still getting in trouble in school and getting bleeped on tv for saying certain things they are still swear words. Will they change in the future? Probably... who knows. Maybe one day "cool" will be an offensive word.

I honestly don't believe the F word will ever be accepted as just another word. But you are right, word and meanings change from one generation to the next.

currently it is a trend to cuss and use swear words. in a couple of years, people will mature and see that it is not okay to use these words in any and every conversation and swear words will be swear words again.

Honestly
I think that it is a personal thing. Words that offend one person may not offend others. Thats the way I look at it
