Yes, I thing it would...I mean, if you told your child that if they stole something from the store that they were going to get their armed chopped off and even point out a couple of people with a few missing arms....yeah, you can bet they would NEVER steal anything.

The crimes would be just more brutal.

It'd be nice to think so ... I certainly think all pedophiles and the like should have their winkies de-winkied.

But public tyranny is mostly a non-productive and doesn't really get results, even as a crime deterrent.

Hey - just murdering a few (!) women at Salem & no-one's had much of a problem with witchcraft since then, have they ?

(except maybe shannon Doherty).

Sometimes the punishment is a worse crime than the "crime" they are being punished for.

NO, they would not. In fact they would increase. A few hundred years ago England hanged children for shoplifting, but the practice continued unabated.

no; it's been proven over and over that the punishments do not deter crime, be it life in prison or beheading!

I think they would. Castration should have been introduced decades ago for convicted rapist. Our society punishments may be to soft.
