Well the first step, obviously, is to ask your mom where he is, who he is, what he does and if he has any relatives that she knows about. There should be some information about him on your birth certificate, and some on your mother's marriage license. You really have to ask your mom some direct questions, to get information that will help you. Check the voters list in the city you were born in, to see if he is registered. Sometimes that will provide a few clues, especially as to his place of employment and his place of residence. It might be a long shot, but if you can ask them their personnel department might have a record of when he left, or where he went (if he gave references) or, and this would be really great, he might even still work there.
It won't be easy, but if you're determined, it can be done. You might even be able to enlist the aid of the media -- tell them your story and see what they suggest. Just as a thought, ask them to check their archives as well. You never know when there might have been a news item about him.
Good luck!

I have the same problem. I am 50 years old, and I've never seen mine, either. I don't know how to go about it, but you have every right to want to know where you came from.
