Guys probably started it, referring to some women as, um..."female dogs."
Women who call guys dogs though are being just as sexist as guys who call women the B-word. They're presuming guys to be simple-minded and animalistic, among other things.
Ironically though, when a woman calls a guy a dog it's often because he's been unfaithful to her. But real dogs are known for their loyalty. Go figure.

With due respect to all men I should say that there are some smililar features between these two
1.Dog is the sybole of loyalty- woman likes the loyal man.
2. Dog sucks which man too.
3. Dog is a good guard and man is too.
that is why women refer to guys as dogs.

Its the same as why men refer to woman as 'chicks'. Its just a symbolic saying that emphasizes a point. Dogs are seen as the symbol for the male ego as well as the fact that this term has been used for so long now people use it without any notice of it.

Because like male dogs, as soon as they smell a "female dog" in heat, they come running.
Referring to the guys who seem incapable of maintaining a monogamous relationship because they seem interested in every girl that comes along. Those are the "dogs".

theres even a book called 'everything i learned about men i learned from my dog'. i read it at an airport. it had some good points... and at the end it decided that a real dog is better haha.
